On Monday, June 23, the generator at Chatuge continued to be in a maintenance outage. However, when possible during the outage, TVA will release flow through the low-level outlet. The water being discharged keeps river temperatures cooler for aquatic habitat.
On Friday, June 20, TVA released a flow of around 400 cubic feet per second of water from the Chatuge reservoir into the Hiawassee River.
Visitors and local folks walking at the dam had spectacular views as the low-level outlet spewed water several feet into the morning air before arcing into the river.
Releases from Chatuge are done to maintain the reservoir level as well as maintain flow in the river. Chatuge will be sluicing approximately 400 cubic feet per second until further notice.
