Rob and Sandy McKown, of Asheville, N.C., admired quilts and historic items in the HHI Centennial Exhibit recently while visiting Clay County.
The couple has plans to visit all 100
counties in North Carolina and Clay was
their 85th as well as one of the smallest so
far.
They gave compliments regarding the historical displays showing early local farming as community income, Veterans Room honoring those who served from 1800s forward, Lake Chatuge construction maps, barn quilts and much more.
The town square was very impressive to them with the historic Beal Center and surrounding businesses.
The Old Jail Museum and Cherokee Exhibit were recommended to include in their "walkabout" with the downtown map provided by HHI and website information for all locations.
The HHI Centennial Exhibit at 116 Sanderson Street is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and by appointment. Visit: www.historichayesvilleinc.com for details.
