The Lady Yellow Jacket basketball team welcomed Murphy to Hayesville Middle School Monday, Nov. 18 for the third game of the season. Hayesville coach Tammy Dills and her team had a full week to prepare for the game and the extra work paid off. In a low-scoring affair, the Lady Jackets managed to improve their record to 3-0 with a 24-16 win.

Hayesville threw a shutout in the first quarter by keeping the Lady Bulldogs off the board. On their end of the court, the Lady Jackets hit double digits to end the quarter up 10-0.

Not only did Murphy manage to get on the board in the second quarter, they won the quarter. The Bulldogs totaled 8 points in the quarter and Hayesville answered with six, giving the Lady Jackets a 16-8 lead at halftime.

Scoring all but disappeared for both teams in the third quarter. Hayesville netted just one bucket in the stanza for 2 points. Luckily for the home team, the Lady Bulldogs didn’t fare much better, adding 3 points to their side of the scoreboard.

Up 18-11, the Lady Jackets fought hard in the fourth quarter. It wasn’t pretty, but Hayesville took the quarter 6-5 to secure the 24-16 win.

Next up on the schedule for the Lady Jackets are Martin’s Creek on Thursday, Nov. 21 and Robbinsville Monday, Nov. 25. Tip off for both games is set for 4 p.m.
