Read Across America Week at Hayesville Primary School

Article Submitted

The students at Hayesville Primary School enjoyed a fun-filled, circus-themed week, full of fun and learning during Read Across America Week. The week is nationally recognized around the birthday of the iconic Dr. Seuss, which lands on March 2nd. The HPS teachers and staff planned a theme to go along with each day, decorated the building in the theme of a circus and did fun activities throughout the week in each classroom to spotlight the day’s theme while focusing on the joy of reading. On Thursday night, the doors of the building were opened to students and their families to come in and enjoy an evening of reading with different teachers throughout the school. Students, parents and teachers commented on how nice it felt to have some normalcy back by having the freedom to allow visitors in the school to engage in activities together.

The week was topped off by a community-led carnival in the HPS gym on Friday. Community businesses, churches and organizations planned and created book-themed games for the students and spent the day engaging with every student in the school. Again, the theme of normalcy was felt throughout the building as children played games and interacted with the adults who worked to make it a wonderful experience. The generosity of our community businesses and entities is astounding and the HPS staff is extremely grateful for their efforts to make it such a memorable day for our children.
