Submitted • Clay County Progress Proud coach Bryan Hedden and senior golfer Jala Stamey share a smile after Stamey’s medal-winning performance.
On Tuesday, May 11, Hayesville golfers Jala Stamey and Madison Logan competed in the 1A/2A state championship at Pinehurst Golf Course. The pair represented HHS well with Stamey tying for third and Logan tying for sixth.
After a slow start, Stamey shot 3 under par on the final nine holes to end up with a score of 77, just one stroke from a second place finish. Stamey’s finish earned her a performance medal, the first in HHS’s history. After representing the Lady Jackets at the state tournament four all four years of high school, Stamey will now take her talents to Truett-McConnell University in the fall.
Logan’s sixt place finish was a strong showing. The field of competitors was riddled with college signees and the junior proved herself worthy of competing with the best of the best. With Stamey’s exit, it’s clear that Logan is fully capable of leading HHS to it’s first golfing state championship.
