Government meetings

• Clay County ABC Board meeting will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11.

• Clay County Board of Elections meeting will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. All monthly board meetings are held at the office at 75 Riverside Circle, Suite 3. The General Election will be Tuesday, Sept. 13.

• Clay County Board of Commissioners, 6:45 p.m. the first Thursday of the month in the multi-purpose room at the Clay County Courthouse. Call 389-0089.

• The Town of Hayesville Town Council’s monthly meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday Sept. 12.

• Clay County Sewer and Water, 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of the month in the multi-purpose room at the Clay County Courthouse. Call 389-1361.

• Clay County Board of Education, 6 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month. Call 389-8513.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office has free gun locks available for you to come pick up at the office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Food assistance

• The Clay County Food Pantry is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Friday to distribute food. The pantry is located at 2278 Hinton Center Road. Contact Bill Rice (828) 389-1657. The website is: www.claycountyfoodpantry.org.

• Matt’s Ministry, 123 W.J. Cabe Road; emergency contact: Sharon Hayden: (828) 361-6441. Pick up is from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturdays only.

Community

• The HHS Class of 1963 will hold a reunion on Saturday, Aug.27 at the pavilion on Lake Chatuge. We will eat around 12 p.m. Come early and visit. Email Carolyn Hall Anderson: woodcarver@dnet.net for details.

• HHS Multi-Class Reunion will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at Truett Memorial First Baptist Church. For details call Margaret Armstrong (770) 380-3199 or email: HHSreunion@computerconnection.us. Respond by Monday, Sept. 19.

• The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission will be offering a Hunter Education course from 6-9 p.m. at the Clay County Court House on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 24 and 25. Students must attend all class sessions to become certified. The course is offered free of charge to the public. There is no minimum age limit to attend and an internet pre-registration is required. • Benefit for Ronnie Foster will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at the Black and Gold Center at the Clay County Recreation Center.

• The Clay County Republican Party will hold its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18. Open to all Republicans and unaffiliated voters. We will be returning to the Clay County Senior Center, 196 Ritter Road Ritter Road. Attendees are invited to bring light refreshments and desserts to share.

• Brasstown Community Center presents Barker and Reighard, “Backroads Reunion” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Brasstown Community Center on 255 Settawig Road in Brasstown, N.C.

• North Georgia Technical College’s Adult Education program is offering free day and evening courses. Classes are held in Blairsville at the Shirley Miller Building, behind the public library. • Calling all patriots. • Organizers for the Welcome Home - A Tribute to All Who Serve will be collecting bottled water for the event. Drop off donated water at the Clay County Progress office.

• Rotary Club of Clay County meetings are held from 12-1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at the Hinton Center, 2330 Hinton Center Road, Hayesville.

• VFW Allison Bristol Post 6812 and VFW Auxiliary meet at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Post 6812 offers free coffee and conversation at 9 a.m. every Tuesday at the VFW building located adjacent to the Black and Gold Sports Booster Building at the Clay County Youth Ball Fields. • To dispose of tattered, worn, faded or otherwise unusable flags, drop off at the Clay County Progress, Chamber of Commerce or Moss Memorial Library. Flags will be retrieved by The American Legion Post 532 for a proper and honorable retirement.

• Pull-tabs from drinks for the Ronald McDonald House can be dropped off at the Clay County Progress.
