In this week's column I am sharing an invitation written by a retired major on behalf of No Barriers Warriors as follows:
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our free programs for Veterans with service-connected disabilities. Essentially, No Barriers helps Veterans redefine their identity, purpose, and community as they face past and present challenges -providing an opportunity for growth and a catalyst for change.
Our veterans frequently struggle as they transition out of the military into the civilian community. Focusing on solution, No Barriers Backcountry Expeditions are adventureĀ-based trips, challenging participants to overcome serious obstacles in a wilderness environment, as Veterans complete a three-day hike -stretching beyond their physical and emotional boundaries, as they push through adversity.
We plan to conduct four of these Expeditions in Pisgah National Forest, located in western North Carolina, two in May and two in September. The application window will formally open in November.
Challenging veterans to contemplate where they are in life, where they want to be and how to get there, Backcountry Expeditions provide the tools, strategies, and drive to overcome these barriers. Participants learn to rely on their new support team, fostering camaraderie as they learn to serve others.
Given the success of our program to date, I am soliciting your support for this lifeĀ-changing opportunity. As you encounter veterans who may benefit from our program, visit: nobarriersusa.org-Warriors please have them contact me directly at marchamp7@aol.com; (828) 782-8322.
