Effective Thursday, June 19, we will be expanding our Clay County Food Pantry hours to include Thursday evenings from 4 to 6 p.m. We will continue to be open on Friday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
You are welcome to come either Thursday or Friday, whatever suits your schedule the best. The additional hours are a result of the increased demand.
The number of families served was up 27 percent from the six months ending in March versus the previous six months. We are adding Thursday evenings with the hope that it will reduce the volume on Friday mornings so our neighbors will not have to wait as long to get their groceries.
We are also expecting to serve new neighbors who were unable to get to the pantry on Friday mornings. Food insecurity is a serious problem and we hope the expanded hours will better serve those in need.
