The Hayesville Christmas Parade will usher in the holiday season with one of its biggest processions in history on Saturday, Dec. 14. It starts on the Hayesville square at 6 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Come Down to Jingle Town in Hayesville,” which was the winning entry from Sara Teleky, a sixth grader at Hayesville Middle School.

This year’s parade is stacking up to be one of biggest in the more than three decades. There are about 30 float participants signed up along with community groups, churches, businesses, horses and riders, classic car enthusiasts and school groups. We are also happy to have the Hayesville Marching Band in our procession. They are a popular and  long standing tradition in the parade.

In keeping with tradition, all veterans serve as honorary grand marshals and we are again honored to have veterans from our local VFW, American Legion and auxiliaries lead off the parade.

There is no fee, but an entry form must be submitted to Clay County Progress by 12 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13. Forms are available at the newspaper office, Moore’s Plaza, or via email request to: news@claycountyprogress.com. You can also call 389-8431.

Plaques will be awarded for Most Christmas Spirit, Best Themed Float, Best Faith Based Display and Mayor’s Choice along with Best of Show horse and Best of Show classic car division.

The staging area for participants is the Clay County Courthouse Complex. Judging starts at 4:30 p.m.

In case of rain the parade will be moved to Sunday, Dec. 15  following the same schedule as Saturday. Tune in to local radio stations or visit the Progress Facebook page for any changes in scheduling. If there are no notices, it means the parade will happen on its original schedule.

The Hayesville Christmas Parade has been sponsored by the Clay County Progress since its inception in 1987.
