Government meetings

• Board of Election’s meetings will be held at 9 a.m. the second Tuesday of the month at 75 Riverside Circle, Ste. 3.

• The Town of Hayesville Council members will hold their monthly meeting at Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 10.

• The Clay County Board of Commissioners will hold a regular meeting immediately following the Water & Sewer Board meeting at 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of the month in the multi-purpose room at the Clay County Courthouse. Call 389-0089.

• Clay County Board of Education, 6 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month. Call 389-8513.

Clay County Sheriff’s Office has free gun locks. Pick-up from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

• The Clay County ABC Board meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 11.

• Food assistance

• The Clay County Food Pantry is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Friday to distribute food. The pantry is located at 2278 Hinton Center Road. Contact Bill Rice (828) 389-1657. The website is: www.claycountyfoodpantry.org.

• Matt’s Ministry, 123 W.J. Cabe Road; emergency contact: Sharon Hayden: (828) 361-6441. Pick up is from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturdays only.

• Community Food Pantry is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at the Brasstown Community Center.

Community

• FWNC Gourd Patch meets at 10 a.m. on the third Wednesday of the month during the months of April-November at  the Shooting Creek firehouse/community building. For each months activities information call Linda (828) 494-7654.

• Friends of Moss Memorial Library Annual Membership Meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23 in the Carolyn Krueger Meeting Room at the library. Bring an appetizer or dessert to share. Election of officers and board members.

• The Madelyn Lea Chorus invites singers to join us for the 10th season. The performance will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 6 at Hayesville First United Methodist Church. For details call Cody Killian at: 828-361-7888 or email: cckillian@hotmail.com.

• Hooper Reunion descendants of Absalom and Clemmons Hooper to meet at 11 p.m. Saturday, July  20 at the Hiawassee Senior Citizen Center for a covered dish lunch. For any questions text (706) 581-2016.

• The Appalachian Saint Andrew’s Pipes and Drums bagpipe band meets at 9 a.m. every Saturday at St. Clare’s Episcopal Church in Blairsville, Ga. for instruction and rehearsal. The band is actively recruiting pipers and drummers, both experienced and beginning. We promise excellent instruction in a friendly and supportive environment and invite anyone with a serious interest in learning the Great Highland Bagpipe or Scottish Drums to come and visit a rehearsal session. • The Gladson Family will perform at the Brasstown Community Center. Doors open at 6 p.m.; music starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Admission is $10, food and drinks are available for purchase.

• Young Harris Jamboree is held at 6:30 p.m. the first Friday of the month at Stephens Lodge in Young Harris located at 135 Murphy St. There is no admission for the concert. There will be a light meal served by Stephens Lodge as a fundraiser for their scholarship fund. There is a small fee for the meal.

• All Clay County Democrats are invited to attend our monthly meeting at the Corner Coffee Shop in Hayesville at 6 p.m. followed by an opportunity to socialize at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. The CCDP holds its business meeting starting at 7 p.m.

• Trash to Treasure shop is now open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 78 Sanderson Street. Featuring household items and furnishings at great prices.

• Smoky Mountain Pregnancy Care Center will be at the Clay County Health Department parking lot from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every fourth Thursday of the month. The mobile unit is providing free ultrasounds for confirmation of pregnancy. You must be at least six weeks gestation to have the ultrasound performed. • Cruise-In on the Square is held from 3-6 p.m. every third Saturday of the month on the Historic Downtown Square in Blairsville, Ga.

• Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors/Survivors of Suicide Loss Peer Support Group will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the Corner Coffee Shop, 66 Church Street.

• Coffee With the Poets and Writers meets at 10:30 a.m. every second Wednesday from March to December 2024 at Moss Memorial Library. The event is free and open to the public. An open mic will follow the presentation. • VFW Allison Bristol Post 6812 and VFW Auxiliary meet at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Post 6812 offers free coffee and conversation at 9 a.m. every Tuesday at the VFW building located adjacent to the Black and Gold Sports Booster Building at the Clay County Youth Ball Fields. • To dispose of tattered, worn, faded or otherwise unusable flags, drop off at the Clay County Progress, Chamber of Commerce or Moss Memorial Library. Flags will be retrieved by The American Legion Post 532 for a proper and honorable retirement.

• Pull-tabs from drinks for the Ronald McDonald House can be dropped off at the Clay County Progress.
