County projects get boost

N.C. Rep. Karl Gillespie and Sen. Kevin Corbin were on hand Dec. 13  for a formal check presentation to local counties from their share of a national opioid settlement. According to County Manager Debbie Mauney, the collaborative efforts of the two local legislators and county government will yield three Clay County projects and $2 million to support them. Shown during the check presentation are, from left, Corbin, Commissioner Dr. Robert Peck, Mauney, Commissioner Clay Logan, Commissioner Dwight Penland and Gillespie. “The Future farmer’s market, arena and Regional Community Paramedic Training Center continue to move forward thanks to the generous support of our state legislators,” said Mauney.
