Come join us at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 on the square in Hiawassee for country music at it’s best.
The Dixie Tornadoes are a “throwback” country rock band that plays 60s, 70s and 80s country music. Started as a fun project to play the songs which everyone else had quit playing, Greg Henderson — vocals and guitar, called his friends, David Shipman — lead guitar and Jerry “Wolfgang” Wofford — bass and vocals, playing the songs which folks used to call “Country.” The band borrows from the music of Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, George Jones and others, along with some of Henderson’s original creations. To round out the group, Ricky Silvers performs on the drums. You are guaranteed to recognize most of the songs they play and they cordially invite you to sing along. This will be a fun evening and a tribute to classic country songs.
Bring your lawn chair, your family and friends and the family pet on a leash with clean up equipment. Audience donations account for the majority of the funding needed to present these summer concerts. We are honored to have several sponsors also supporting us. Be sure to patronize Sundance Grill, Servpro, Farmers Insurance, Georgia Mountain TV, State Farm Insurance and Northpointe Bank to show them our appreciation. In case of rain, the performance will be held in the civic center, across from the east side of the courthouse in Hiawassee.
If in doubt about weather on the square, call (706) 994-1247 after 5 p.m. to check our location. The favorite cooks from the VFW Post 7807 Auxiliary will be there starting at 6:30 p.m. with the best grilled hot dogs in the county.
