Dozens of speeders nabbed during holiday weekend

Motorists in Clay County kept North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers hoping during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

According to N.C. Department of Public Safety Administrative Specialist Tressie Phillips, troopers issued 32 speeding tickets in Clay and made three arrests for driving while impaired during a four-day period, July 1-4.

In addition, three drivers were ticketed for not wearing seatbelts and one was charged with reckless driving.

Troopers also responded to six collisions in the county. Five were property damage only. The sixth involved injury.
