Acclaimed Americana artist A. Lee Edwards, is celebrating the forthcoming release of his new album and will appear at 7 p.m. Friday, July 5 at the John C. Campbell Folk School Festival Barn.
A. Lee (Alan) Edwards has been making music for 30 years. It’s been an essential element throughout his entire life. That said, his new music represents a rebirth of sorts, one that’s manifest in not one, but two new albums, “Interpreting Heart Sounds Vol. I & II.”
Produced by the legendary John Wood, the man behind the boards for Nick Drake, Fairport Convention, John Cale and Richard and Linda Thompson, the new albums are a major milestone. Vol. 1 is a band-oriented effort, while Vol. 2 features a more stripped-down sound with the addition of strings. It was recorded at the famed Echo Mountain Recording Studios in Asheville, engineered by Kenny Harrington, mastered by the team at Well Made Music of Bristol, Tenn. and pressed locally at Citizen Vinyl.
This concert features Edwards' songs and finger-style guitar. He is a pioneer in the Americana and Alt-Country genres. There is an honesty in his writing, an authenticity not built for an outward style but which shows inner substance. Throughout the years Edwards has shared the bill with the likes of the Avett Brothers, John Doe, Old 97s, Drive By Truckers, Todd Snyder, Buddy and Julie Miller, Sierra Ferrell, Chris Smither and Jimbo Mathus, to name a few.
The Folk School features some of the finest acts performing eclectic roots music. A donation of $5-10 per adult is suggested, but all are welcome regardless of contribution. Any funds raised support traditional arts and help with equitable pay for performers. Lineup and schedule are subject to change. For details visit: www.folkschool.org and www.aleeedwards.com
