NC MedAssist is holding a Mobile Free Pharmacy Event in partnership with Vaya Health and Southwestern Commission- Region A, in Clay County from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16. The event will be held at the Clay County Sports Complex, 89 Valley Hideaway Dr.
The free medicine giveaway and community event is open to individuals 18 and older and families needing over-the-counter medication items. No identification is required and there are no income restrictions. Everyone is welcome.
Participants will be able to learn more about NC MedAssist’s free prescription pharmacy program and receive free OTC items such as cough and cold medicine, vitamins, children’s allergy medication and first aid supplies. The event will occur rain or shine and all OTC items will be given first-come, first-serve while supplies last.
Last year, NC MedAssist held 54 Mobile Free Pharmacy events across North Carolina. NC MedAssist’s overall goal is to help ease the burden of those in need by aiding people who have been forced to decide between buying food and purchasing life-saving medication.

Clay County Health Department will offer free health screenings — ie. blood glucose, Hgb A1C and blood pressure. In addition, we are excited to collaborate with the following community partners to offer valuable community resources and information: Clay County Department of Social Services; Clay County Senior Center; Cherokee County Senior Center; Clay County Community Paramedic Program; REACH of Clay County; Blue Ridge Health; Clay County Food Pantry; N.C. Works Career Center.
North Carolina Community Health Center Association will be present to help answer questions about Medicaid expansion and enrollment and so much more.
Shelly Foreman with Vaya Health and Becky Grindstaff with Clay County Health Department said, “We are thrilled that the NC MedAssist Mobile Free Pharmacy is coming to Clay County. This event helps vulnerable members of our community gain access to necessary over the counter medications, free health screenings and discover additional resources available in our area.”
“NC MedAssist is excited to host a Mobile Free Pharmacy event in Clay County,” stated NC MedAssist Mobile Free Pharmacy Program Director Lisa Szabo. She shared, “Together with our community partners, we are bringing free over-the-counter medications, like Tylenol, Cough and Cold and Band-Aids, to area residents. No one should ever go without medicine and the Mobile Free Pharmacy Program enables us to reach those who are unaware of our free resources.”
NC MedAssist is a statewide non-profit pharmacy, founded in 1997. The organization provides free prescription medication to low-income, uninsured North Carolinians.
