Elizabeth Hodgson and son, Billy take advantage of the sunny days with walks, shopping and visiting friends.
Elizabeth, 73, of Hayesville, is the daughter of the late Harold and Helen Anderson and wife of the late Joseph Hodgson who passed away in 2011.
“I have five sisters and four brothers and grew up on a farm. I remember working really hard when I was a kid, didn’t have time to play,” Elizabether said. “We had to milk the cows before going to school, worked in the garden and did what ever I was supposed to be doing on the farm. It was hard but I lived through it.
Elizabeth spent some time working after graduation.
“After I graduated from high school in Hayesville I went to work at ACI Furniture Factory located locally back then. At 29 years old I got married then my husband and I moved to Lexington, N.C. and I worked at a furniture factory there,” she said.
Billy, 39, graduated high school in Lexington before moving back to Hayesville with his family.
“After moving back to Hayesville I went to work at Ingles. I’m still single and work part-time at the Hot Spot. My mom and I do enjoy getting out and walking, but we have to make sure we stay hydrated in the hot weather,: he said. “I also enjoy going out to visit with other people, playing on my cell phone and going to my church, Shiloh Baptist. Being in the mountains is something I enjoy, especially the people. When I worked at Ingles I liked talking with people and working as a cashier.”
Both Elizabeth and Billy agreed there have been a lot of changes in Clay County and most for the good.
Elizabeth said, “The EMS was a welcome sight and all the different grade school buildings is a lot better than it was when I went to school.”
Billy added, “Also the new courthouse and sheriffs office is a good addition. I can’t honestly think of anything bad.”
Although getting out to walk is something Elizabeth and Billy enjoy there are other things in their lives they shared that makes them happy.
“I enjoy spending time with family and visiting when I can but the exercise I get in walking is good for my health. I enjoy working in the puzzle books too. Also as a mother I am glad to have my son, Billy, with me. I still have to go wake him up to go to work, telling him to get up and he says, do I have to ” Elizabeth laughed.
“I am really blessed to have a family and my relationship with God because he blesses my life all the time,” Billy concluded.
