We all wish when we see that rainbow that there really is a pot of gold somewhere for us to find. It hasn’t happened yet, not for me anyway. The lucky ones are those folks that brought home a little bit of gold when they brought home their Golden Retriever puppy.
What a gem of a dog. The Golden always has a kind expression on his face. He smiles especially when he has his favorite toy in his mouth but beware it could be your slippers. The Golden likes to carry his toys around the house and out to play but sometimes he leaves them in the yard only to find them again later to bring them back into the house, which is ok unless it’s been raining, then it’s a soggy toy.
The Golden Retriever has the kindest expression of all the breeds. He is one of the best family dogs because of his cheerful, demonstrative, and trustworthy personality. The Golden gets along with children, cats, and other dogs. The Golden Retriever is also very forgiving when his owner makes mistakes in their handling of him/her.
Don’t expect your Golden to be a watch dog. He/she is not. They will let a stranger in hoping to have a play date especially throwing toys that they can fetch. Goldens are often trained to be service dogs. They are people pleaser, gentle, kind, and intelligent.
This breed is eager to please you and very responsive to Obedience training. Early training is important to instill calmness and good manners. Be persistent and patient with this training and even though he remains puppylike throughout his life with his/her attitude you will want a well-trained Golden which translate into a delightful companion.
This breed is large, and athletic, eager to please, a tail-waging friendly, peaceful companion and beautiful to look at. He/she will be you pot-of-gold all of their life.
