Hayesville’s Small Town Main Street program will share in a grant from the Dogwood Health Trust that will give STMS $20,000 in unrestrictive funds.

Historic Hayesville Inc.’s Board Chair Sandy Zimmerman made the announcement at Monday evening’s meeting of the Hayesville Town Council. She said the grant funds likely will be used to improve Internet usage at the Centennial Exhibit Building on Sanderson Street.

“It was a collaborative effort with Moss Library and the Nantahala Regional Library System. The library asked us to participate,” Zimmerman said of the grant application.

Dogwood Health Trust is headquartered in Asheville and supports community equity, capacity building, leveraging resources and policy and advocacy work. The trust helps support the 18 counties and Qualla Boundary of Western North Carolina.

Hayesville has been a member of the N.C. Small Town Main Street Program for more than a decade. The 2025 N.C. Main Street conference will be held March 11-13 in Mooresville, N.C.

Historic Hayesville Inc. and the Town of Hayesville have been active participants in the conference. Zimmerman encouraged Hayesville Mayor Joe Slaton and Town Council members to attend.

In other action at Monday’s short meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, the Town Council noted two reappointments to the Planning and Zoning Board. The appointments are Randy Canup and George Gaines.
