Hayesville third in Pigeon Forge’s ‘Music at the Parks’

By Alexis Dockery

HHS Band Director

On Saturday, April 22 the Hayesville High School Concert Band traveled to Pigeon Forge to perform for the Music in the Parks Festival. These dedicated ninth through 12th grade students have worked on a variety of music for on-campus performances throughout the spring semester, but only two of the pieces were selected to perform for judges at the festival. Students performed Carl Strommen’s "Cumberland Cross" and Brian Balmages’ "Among the Clouds" to receive ratings and feedback from two professional musicians.

After a spectacular performance that showcased their growth, students were able to spend the afternoon in Dollywood before the award ceremony at the Celebrity Theater. The HHS Concert Band earned third place in the category of 1A Concert Bands. It was a great day to celebrate the students' hard work while also giving them an opportunity to receive feedback to help them grow as musicians.

The next opportunity to hear the Hayesville Bands perform is at the Spring Band Concerts on Tuesday, May 2 in the Clay County Schools Auditorium. Sixth and seventh grade bands will perform at 6 p.m. and eighth and high school bands will perform at 7 p.m. The concerts are free to attend, but there will be a donation booth at the door to support the HHS Tri-M Music Honor Society Scholarship Fund.
