At 12:52 p.m. Friday, April 18 a hunter was walking into the woods in the Fires Creek Wildlife Refuge when he walked past a camping spot where a black Jeep Wrangler and a blue Ford Explorer were parked. Upon arriving at his hunting spot, the man began scrolling through Facebook and came across a post showing this same Jeep as having been stolen.
The hunter read where the owner of the Jeep, Seth Ray, of Clermont, Ga. posted on Facebook that an Emily and Trey Smith had already allegedly been arrested for theft.
Ray indicated that his Jeep had not been recovered and was requesting information as to its whereabouts. The hunter called Clay County Lt. Tyler Faggard and reported finding this Jeep.
Faggard and Clay County Sgt. Chris Moral responded with the hunter to the campsite where the Jeep was located. The Explorer was no longer present. While Moral stayed with the Jeep, Faggard drove down the road and located the blue Explorer with Emily Joann Smith, 32, of Gainesville, Ga., nearby.
Emily Smith denied being in possession of the Jeep and drove back up the road. As the Explorer past Moral, he radioed to Faggard that there was now a male passenger within the vehicle.
Moral stopped the Explorer and found Enoch Franklin Smith, 39, of Gainesville, as a passenger in the vehicle being driven by Emily Smith. By this time, Faggard was able to talk by phone with Deputy Martin of the Hall County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia. Martin confirmed details of the theft of the Jeep. Both Emily and Enoch were arrested and charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle, the same Jeep they had already been arrested in Georgia for stealing. Emily and Enoch were not given a bond due to them already being out on a bond for allegedly stealing the Jeep to begin with.
