It seemed like a long time coming, but motorists traveling the newly minted Highway 69 in Clay County may notice the missing cones that dotted the roadway have been replaced by new directional signs.

“Major roadwork is complete,” said DOT Resident Engineer Adam Dockery. “There is still punch list items that will need to be performed.”

Directional signs were installed Friday and all lanes are now open on Highway 69 with the new turning lanes clearly indicated, but there’s a few other projects ahead for Clay County.

Dockery said upcoming projects include resurfacing various routes throughout the county, striping improvements to Business 64 through the town of Hayesville and the installation of traffic signals at the intersection of US 64 and Business 64 at the Hot Spot.

Another project on deck is two bridges to be replaced on Myers Chapel Road.
