According to a press release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, at 1:36 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16 Sheriff’s Officers Corey Scroggs and Dillion Nelson responded to a report of a larceny at Mike’s Maintenance and Mechanical Shop in Warne. Upon their arrival they were met by Michael Kruber who reported the theft of a set of wheels and tires off a nearby 2001 Toyota Four Runner belonging to Dana Calloway.
Calloway indicated that Robert Curtis Parker, 32, of Brasstown, had previously asked her about buying the wheels and tires.
Clay County Investigator Nick Queen soon arrived to assist with the investigation. A canvass of the area around the theft for witnesses was conducted. It was learned that a nearby surveillance camera was in place and reviewed by the officers. Parker and a second man were observed taking the tires off the Four Runner and putting them in a white Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Based on the identification of Parker, Scroggs obtained arrest warrants for Parker for felonious larceny of a motor vehicle and misdemeanor damage to personal property. Later that afternoon, Parker was arrested and given a secured bond. Parker gave a voluntary statement of admission. Parker told officers where the wheels and tires had been taken. They were subsequently recovered and returned to the owner, according to the press release from Sheriff Mark Buchanan.
