The North Carolina License Plate Agency in Clay County has moved to a new location where employees now greet customers inside its redecorated and remodeled office.

The N.C. License Plate Agency is in the same area on Hwy. 64 west, but the new location is adjacent to West Brothers Auto Sales and Inspections.

The doors are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. except lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. weekdays.

Ron West opened the tag office n Hayesville in 1991 after it had been managed by Margaret Jones for many years. When West first ran it, the office was located on the corner of the square inside West’s Auto Parts. In 2008 West bought land and moved it to the building on Hwy 64 where it remained in operation for 16 years.

His son Dave is a partner in business, but West who is nearly 90 years old, still works a couple of days a week.

“My mother lived to be more than 100 and like she always told me, if you sit down you’ll never get back up so I’m not ready to retire,” West said.
