At 4:24 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 Clay County Lt. Tyler Faggard stopped a white Ford F150 near 1035 NC Highway 69. The driver was Jeremiah Nathaniel Bogert, 43, of Blairsville, Ga.

Bogert told Faggard his driver’s license was suspended. While Faggard was writing a citation for driving on a suspended license, Clay County Sgt. Steven Smith arrived to the scene with his K-9 “Luca.”

“Luca” alerted on the truck for the presence of a controlled substance. A clear plastic bag containing a large amount of a crystal-like substance was found within the truck, according to the reprot.

The substance field tested positive for 21 grams of methamphetamine. Bogert was arrested without incident for possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamine and issued a $10,000 secured bond.

At 11:38 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 Clay County Investigator Nick Queen stopped a 2003 Dodge pickup truck near the intersection of Town Mountain Road and US Highway 64. The driver of the truck was Chrisitan Cade Davies, 20, of Hayesville. Queen knew Davies was out on a bond for prior felony charges relating to methamphetamine and larceny.

Clay County 911 Dispatch informed Queen that the license plate noted on the truck should have been on a Honda Pilot. After approaching Davies, Queen noted a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun in the passenger seat of the truck, according to their report.

Faggard and Clay County K-9 Sgt. Steven Smith soon arrived to assist Queen. Once he was out of the truck, Queen saw a bulge in the front of Davies’ waist band and the end of a clear smoking device that was consistent with being used for the ingestion of methamphetamine.

After the smoking pipe was seized, a search of the truck yielded a clear plastic baggy containing a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for approximately three grams of methamphetamine, the 12-gauge shotgun and 12 gauge shot shells, according to the sheriff’s office.

The truck and its remaining contents were also seized and impounded. Davies was arrested and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and displaying a fictitious license plate.

Davies was held without bond due to already being out on another bond for prior felony charges.

At 11:40 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 Clay County Sgt. Steven Smith stopped a Toyota Highlander on US Highway 64 west near Hills Country Store. Smith was aware that the license plate displayed on this vehicle had been revoked due to an insurance stop. Once the Toyota was stopped, Smith identified the driver as Joy McKenzie Shipers, 20, of Murphy, Christian Cade Davies, 20, of Hayesville, was a passenger in the vehicle.

Faggard and Clay County Officer Drew Judge subsequently arrived at the scene to assist with this traffic stop. A search of the Toyota yielded a toothbrush holder containing three hypodermic needles with two of them containing a clear liquid suspected to be methamphetamine.

Judge reported locating a small black flashlight near the gear shifter of the car and found that it contained a plastic baggie with a white crystalline substance that Shipers identified as being methamphetamine.

Shipers claimed ownership of the suspected methamphetamine seized from the vehicle. She was arrested for felony possessions of methamphetamine and displaying a revoked license plate and transported to the Clay County Detention Center, according to the sheriff’s office.

Due to previously pending charges for possession of methamphetamine in Cherokee County, Shipers was held without bond.
