The 18th annual concert which supports the Madelyn Lea Memorial Scholarship will return to the Hayesville First United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

Honoring Madelyn Lea, esteemed voice and piano teacher who served as music director at both Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Ledford’s Chapel Church, the memorial endeavor began in 2007 with the creation of a scholarship fund bearing her name. Since 2008, 21 Clay county students have benefitted from this project. Thanks to community support and the generosity of the Edward A. Oberzut estate, 2024 recipient Grant Hendrix was awarded $2000.

Join us for a highly entertaining concert featuring contemporary and classical music with performances by the Madelyn Lea Chorus, soloists and duets including special appearances by Young Harris College director of bands, Dr. Hayes Bunch and a piano duet by Hayesville students Steven and Ian Herrada. Kudos to talented musical director, Cody Killian and choral directors Laura Stooksbury and Jeff Bauman for creating a spectacular program that you won’t want to miss.

Mark your calendars now. This year’s concert is sure to please music lovers of all ages. Ticket are $10 and will be available soon at BodySense in Hiawassee, Tiger’s Store in Hayesville and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic gift shop after the weekend Mass.
