On Feb. 2, a white Ford F350 truck was reported to have been involved in a hit and run of another vehicle on NC Hwy 69 in Hayesville. A suspect was later arrested and charged in the incident, according to a press release from Sheriff Mark Buchanan.

Clay County Sheriff’s Officer Lt. Tyler Faggard and Sgt. Chris Moral discovered the truck traveling on US 64 east of Hayesville.

The truck was stopped and was being driven by Sean Christopher O’Neal, 32, of Macon County, N.C.

Initially O’Neal denied involvement in any hit and run, but later confessed. According to Buchanan, there was in-car camera footage in the vehicle O’Neal had allegedly struck.

In addition, a consensual search of the truck yielded a crystal-like substance in a cigarette pack, which tested positive for methamphetamine.

O’Neal was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine.

N.C. Trooper AJ Gordon also charged O’Neal with hit and run, improper passing and no operator’s license.
