Tragedy occurred last week when a young Clay County man was killed while riding his motorcycle.
Carlos Manuel Olvera, 26, died Friday morning, June 14, when he collided with a pickup truck on Pinelog Road, also known as SR 1104.
According to information provided by NC State Highway Patrol Troop G District 6 Communications Specialist Tressie Phillips, Olvera was traveling north on SR 1104 on a 2022 Honda 450 when he lost control and slid across center into oncoming traffic. He collided with a southbound 2023 Ford Maverick truck driven by Craig Underwood, of Brasstown.
Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Watson was the trooper who responded to the accident. “Carlos Olvera failed to maintain his lane and went left of center in a blind curve,” Watson said. “The other party was not at fault and there was no other third party involved. The boy on the dirt bike was at fault.”
Watson said Olvera was not wearing a helmet as he rode the unregistered motorcycle. No additional details are available at this time, but it is an ongoing investigation.
The initial statement released by N.C. State Highway Patrol Sergeant Rocky R. Deitz the day of the accident said Olvera was the only fatality or injury, as a result of the crash.
The son of Genaro Olvera and Melinda Jean Anderson Olvera, Carlos enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing, shooting guns, and working. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 18 from the Mountain View Chapel with Revs. Aud Brown and Ben Hogsed officiating. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.
