Officers' quick response saves man's life

This week a press release by Sheriff Mark Buchanan shared how Clay County Sheriff’s deputies Justin Osborn and Nick Queen used Narcan to save a local man’s life.

With assistance from Hayesville Fire Chief Brian Anderson, the deputies administered two doses of the emergency opioid overdose reversal medication after they determined the unconscious man had likely overdosed.

When officers found the man in the driver’s seat of a pickup truck near Dollar General in the Shooting Creek community. Buchanan reported that the man was not breathing, sweating profusely and had a grayish skin tone, all of which were consistent with an overdose.

After the two doses of Narcan were administered, the man gasp for air and began breathing, according to Buchanan.
