The Old Jail Museum draws attention as it sits on the hill close to the square in downtown Hayesville. This historic icon serves as the keeper of stories from Clay County's past and promotes an appreciation of the region's cultural and historical heritage.
The museum has been open weekends during May and will host an official season opening on Saturday, May 28. Featured in the Exhibit Room this season will be photographs by Ron Wallace.
Well known for his photographs of the local area, Wallace has perfected the use of drones to capture a unique perspective. He takes the viewer on an uncommon journey to view the beauty of scenes usually seen only from the ground. Regardless of the perspective, his photographs are beautiful to behold and memorable in the artistic statement they make.
A reception to recognize the season opening and to honor Wallace will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday May 28 at the Old Jail Museum. Everyone is welcome to come, bring a friend, enjoy refreshments and take a look at the museum's special exhibits for the season. Regular museum hours during the season will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
