The “Luminaries on the Lake” has been so successful that it has turned into an annual tradition.
With the support of the Clay County Board of Commissioners and County Manager Debbie Mauney, the event, which is held at The Clay County Recreation Campground featured 1,000 luminaries lining the route, creating a breathtaking pathway of soft, glowing lights for families, friends and neighbors to enjoy.
Becky Grindstaff, director of the Clay County Senior Center spearheads the project but says she has a lot of help from the maintenance, recreation and social services departments. Along with local volunteers Mike and Cynthia Gonzalez, all 1,000 bags were filled with sand and set out on Friday, Dec. 6 with hopes of keeping the drive-thru open until Dec. 15 — weather permitting.
“We hope the community has enjoyed this event and that it has brought some extra holiday cheer to this Christmas season,” said Grindstaff.
