Historic Hayesville Inc. has been the sponsor of our town's Shop Small Shop Local promotion for many years and this year is off and running.

Weather cooperated for a great day to kick off sales on Saturday, Nov. 16 with gift and decorations available on Sanderson Street as the first HHI event for the holidays with inspiration from earlier times to promote downtown businesses.

A good historical example of local support was the Trade Jubilee event advertised in 1941 by the Clay County News.

The event was successful for Hayesville merchants when everything, including the bank and grocery stores were located around the downtown square. Shopping was encouraged with advertising to support both the businesses and families in need of holiday bargains.

HHI will continue more recent efforts with promoting local businesses through the holiday season with local advertising as shown in this week's edition of Clay County Progress.

Free tickets to win holiday baskets will be available Thanksgiving weekend beginning on Friday, Nov. 29 with participating merchants and continue until the drawing for winners on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the annual Christmas Parade.

Chances to win will also be available on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Songwriters Circle Concert upstairs in the Beal Center.

Visit: www.historichayesvilleinc.com for details to enjoy local events during the holidays or stop by the HHI Centennial Exhibit from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays to see more town or county history.
