Clay County’s new 911 Center made its debut just before the end of 2024. Construction was completed and the county’s 911 personnel began working from the new site on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Clay County Manager Debbie Mauney announced the facility opening with a press release. “Clay County government is excited to share with the community. This state-of-the-art facility is the culmination of much hard work and dedication.”

The need for a new 911 facility has been a special priority to Mauney for several years. She said it was the first thing she identified as she transitioned from her years with social services into interim county manager, then into her current role of county manager.

“The old 911 was completely inadequate and working conditions were difficult for staff,” she said. “Watching it transition from discussion and strategy sessions through planning, architectural design and construction has been very satisfying.”

The new stand-alone 911 building is located between the Department of Social Services and the Clay County Courthouse. Designed by LS3P Architect Firm, Wells and West received the construction bid of $4,660,575. Mauney is proud the project was completed on time, as well as under budget.

“I am very grateful to our Clay County Board of Commissioners for giving me the go-ahead to begin the project and for their continued support throughout every phase of its development,” Mauney said.

Kevin Sellers, Clay County’s 911 Director, agreed.

“I am beyond thrilled to see the new Clay County 911 Center go into operation for the 911 staff, for the citizens and for visitors in Clay County,” he said. “I want to thank the commissioners, the county manager and all the other people involved in getting this project completed.”

Mauney added. “Even working through the slow-downs of COVID did not stop the progression of this $6.3 million-dollar hardened facility, which will serve the county well in years to come. Hurricanes Helene and Milton have only helped to emphasize the importance of preparedness and the crucial role that all of our emergency services play.”

911 is the first point of entry in relaying critical information. It is imperative that our people and our facilities be the best that they can be.

The facility features up-to-date equipment and the latest in technology, bringing on line mobile cad, which will improve communications between all of our emergency services.

Currently, the county will have two full-time terminals (operators) and an additional two terminals for future growth. Staff will be able to utilize a debriefing-conference room and will have at their access a quiet room for decompressing after stressful events, tragedies and the like.”

There will be an open house so others may tour the new 911 facility in early spring.
