Mayor Benita England opened a public hearing on the proposed Town of Hayesville 2026-2027 budget at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 22. No resident of the community attended the hearing and Harry Baughn made a motion to open the regular meeting. Lauren Tiger seconded the motion and the regular meeting began with unanimous agreement of council members.
The following amounts were proposed for the operation of the Town of Hayesville for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2027. The revenue neutral tax rate lowered to $0.215 on each $100 assessed valuation of taxable property as listed inside the town limits of Hayesville.
As stated in a memo, because of uncertainty with people appealing their evaluations and changes in the economy with inflation, the council feels that the rate of $0.215 will allow the town to thrive while being aware of fairness to the tax paying citizens.
