A Clay County man who was described as a “steadfast servant of the Lord and passionate curator of knowledge and theology,” in his obituary died Wednesday, Feb. 26 as a result of a two-car accident on Highway 64.
Dr. Robert “Bob” James Schneider, 85, was driving a 2017 Subaru entering US-64 from Herbert Hills Drive to travel west at about 2:30 p.m.
The second vehicle, a 2008 Lexus driven by Nicole Lynn Crook, 28, of Renton, Wash., was traveling east on US-64.
According to the accident report filed by State Trooper Charlie Cheeks, Schneider failed to yield right of way and collided with Crook’s Lexus which then struck a guardrail on the shoulder. Both vehicles came to rest near the area of impact,
Schneider succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital, according to the report.
A service for Schneider will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Hayesville.
