Betty Jean Ditmore Allison Wheeler
On May 9, 2022, Betty Jean Ditmore Allison Wheeler, 84, of Young Harris, Ga. met her Lord and Savior face to face whom she had played the guitar and sung about for most of her life. With her body healed and strength renewed, she joined her late husband Ralph Alonzo Allison, her son Alvin Ralph Allison, her grandchildren Raymond Anthony Allison and Tavrin Ralph Allison; her parents Rice and Gertrude Ditmore; her brothers Jake Ditmore, Paul Ditmore, Clay Ditmore and Lowell Ditmore.
Family still awaiting this reunion include her husband Raleigh L Wheeler, of Young Harris; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Bruce Rogers, of Hiawassee, Ga.; son Charles Allison, of Hayesville; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Scarlett Allison, of Hayesville; grandchildren and spouses, Greg (Lauren) Rogers, of Hiawassee; Jeff (Amanda) Rogers of Hiawassee; Bobby (Becky) Allison, of Candler, N.C.; Jenni (Byron) Harper, of Young Harris; Trista and Tray Allison, of Hayesville; great-grandchildren, Gage, Reagan and Baylor Rogers, Alli and Haden Harper, Cole and Claire Allison; siblings, Kathleen Ditmore Cole, of Hiawassee, and Joe Ditmore, of Robbinsville, N.C. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty was born on Aug. 18, 1937 in Graham County. Later on, the family moved to the Fires Creek area in Hayesville. As a child Betty began playing the guitar and singing for the Lord in churches all over Clay County. In 1950 she married Ralph Allison. Together they led a singing ministry throughout the Tri-State area. Betty was a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church and current member of Martin Hill Baptist Church. She was the most loving mother and grandmother and sweetest lady to everyone who knew her. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. She was so proud of them all. She loved the Lord, knew she was saved, was a faithful servant and wanted to see all of her family and friends in Heaven.
The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Revs. Billy Franklin and Ronald Patterson conducting the service. Burial will follow at the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg and Jeff Rogers, Bobby Allison, Byron Harper, Gary Solesbee and Joshua Bethel.
Visitation will be held from 12- 2 p.m. at the Ivie Funeral Home in Hayesville on Thursday, May 12.
