Claude Lynn “Bud” Jones, 88 of Hayesville, passed away Friday, October 1, 2021 at his residence. Bud was born April 15, 1933 in Wachula, Florida, but had spent most of his youth in Bradenton, Florida. He then served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He later worked several years as an HVAC technician. Bud had owned Baxter’s Motel in Bradenton, Florida for many years. He moved to Hayesville in 1984. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and also a member of American Legion Post #532.
Bud loved God, his family and cars. He was a man of few words, but his kind heart spoke through. Everyone that knew him loved him. People who didn’t know him, wished they did. It’s been said that if it was broke, he could fix it. If it wasn’t broke, he could still make it better. If there wasn’t one, he could make it. If you needed it or wanted it, he would make it for you. He only asked for a few kind words in return.
Bud was the son of the late Claude and Maudie Beatrice Creacy Jones. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Bobby B. Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Jones of Hayesville; one daughter, Cheryl Rickly and husband, Stephen of Palmetto, Florida; one son, Stacey Jones and wife, Donna of Mooresville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Matthew Jones, Kirby Jones, Nicholas Contessa, and Kyle Rickly; and three great-grandchildren, Kadynce, Ayvrie, and Holden. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., October 17, 2021 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Hayesville, with the Revs. Phil Goble, Jr., and Jim Payne officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
