Dr. Jerry L. Smith
Dr. Jerry L. Smith, 82, of Hayesville and LaBelle, Fla., passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022 at his residence in Hayesville. Jerry was born in Fredonia, N.Y. He founded a hazardous materials training company, HazTrain, was a contractor for the Department of Defense and was the founder of Eagle Fork Vineyards.
He was the son of the late Lloyd Smith and Shirley McCormick Smith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher Scott Smith, and his wife of 38 years, Joanne Schardt Smith, who died in 1999.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Deanne Michnick, and her husband, Lawrence; two grandchildren, Sarena Michnick and Joshua Michnick; a sister, Rae Nadine Smith; and his partner for three years, Kathi Diehl.
The family will hold a memorial service at Woodlawn Memorial park in Easton, Md. where Jerry’s remains will be interred next to those of his late wife and son.
