Garland Russell Roach
Garland Russell Roach, 79, of Hillsborough, Ga. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 27, 2021.
Russell was formerly of Hayesville, where he was born and raised in the Roach Cove of the Fires Creek area until joining the Army shortly after his high school graduation in 1962.
Russell served three years during the Vietnam War, then returned to work with General Motors until retirement.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Roach, of Fires Creek, in 2018.
Russell was married to Edith Garrett from the Unaka community in Murphy, N.C. until her death and later remarried Helen Johnson, of Hillsborough, Ga., who also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his brother David Roach, of Murphy, N.C.
Memorial services were held May 1 by family and friends at the Fires Creek Baptist Church where he had been a member for many years. Pastors Dennis Ashe and Dallas Crowder officiated the service. Singers were Brenda Crowder Leek and the Fires Creek Baptist Church Choir.
