Body

Howard Ray Coffey went home to be with God on September 8, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on November 6, 1945 in Hayesville, North Carolina to the late Lori and R.B. Coffey.

Howard served in the United States Navy, serving in the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier. He made an artform of auto body repairs for many years before working as a machinist. Upon retirement, Howard spent most of his time on his tractor, helping others, and learning woodworking and beekeeping. He loved nature, being outdoors, animals, gardening, and watching the Atlanta Braves.

Howard leaves a legacy of kindness and was known for his generous and sweet nature. He loved to laugh and shared his wonderful sense of humor with all those he met.

Howard was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 52 years, Ruth, and a very proud father and grandfather (Poppy). He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; daughter, Selena Coffey of Fletcher, NC and daughter, Robin Kimsey and son-in-law Brian Kimsey of Bishop, G.A., and his precious granddaughters, Lauren and Anna and grandsons, Brice and Cooper.

In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sisters, Barbara Davenport and Sue (Joe) McClure; brothers, Eddie Coffey and Ronnie (Jackie) Coffey and sister-in-law, Debi Coffey. Howard was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lori and R.B. Coffey, and brothers, Clayton, Junior, Jerry, and Mitchell.

For the health and safety of all, a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to Four Seasons Hospice (571 S. Allen Rd., Flat Rock, N.C. 28731) in Howard's name.
