Mary Jo Atkinson Locklear

Mary Jo Atkinson Locklear, 83, of Hayesville, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 in a Clay County care facility.

Mary Jo was a native of Atlanta, Ga. and lived most of her life in Gainesville, Fla. before moving to Hayesville in 2006.

She enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother. She loved growing beautiful flowers and a vegetable garden that she shared with everyone.

Mary Jo also loved being outside enjoying everything nature had to offer.

She was the daughter of the late Joe and Josephine Atkinson, formerly of Blairsville, Ga. and the wife of the late Windel Locklear, who died April 5, 2022. She was also preceded in death by a son, Randall Locklear.

Surviving are four children, Mechele Davis and husband, Don, of Hayesville, Allen Newborn, of High Springs, Fla., Brian Locklear and wife, Karen, of High Springs, and Lisa McGovern and husband, David, of Anderson, S.C.; one sister, Delia Baggett and husband, Jim, of Blairsville, Ga.; one brother, Bill Atkinson and wife, May, of Hayesville; eight grandchildren, Jason Davis and wife, Jessica, Justin Davis and wife, Holly, David Newborn and wife, Becky, Rebecca White, Kaelyn Locklear, Harlie Locklear, Steven McGovern and wife, Kelsey and Austin McGovern; and nine great-grandchildren, Logan Davis, Briella and Emily Ybarra, Jonah Davis, Braxton and Noah Lingner, Roy White Jr., Barrett and Baylor Ann McGovern.

No services are planned.
