Robert “Bob” C. Sams, 73, of Simpsonville, S.C. passed away on Friday, Jan. 28, 2022. 

He was born on May 3, 1948, to the late Earl Sams and Annie Coker Sams of Hayesville. He was a former member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Hayesville and a current member of Christ Community Church in Simpsonville. He faithfully served in various church leadership roles throughout his life. He was a graduate of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C. and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration. His career in the banking industry took him throughout North Carolina and Georgia. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening and cultivating his plants and flowers. He treasured spending time with his family and was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Anne Sams and his brother, David Leon Sams, of Hayesville. 

He is survived by his cherished wife, Judith Stewart Sams; his two sons, Eric Stuart Sams, of Simpsonville, and Joel Brian Sams (Angie), of Clemmons, N.C. and four grandchildren, Julie, Josh, Bryce and Katelyn Sams. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Sams (Janet), of Hayesville and many extended family members. He was loved by all of his family and members of the communities where he lived throughout his life. 

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at Townson Rose Funeral Home in Hayesville. The funeral was held at the Townson-Rose Chapel at 12 p.m. immediately following visitation. Presiding over the service was Pastor Paul Sanders of Christ Community Church in Simpsonville and nephew, Mason Stewart Malone, of Mount Pleasant, S.C. Special music was provided by Victoria Stewart Malone, Mason Malone and Maddie Thomas. Pallbearers were grandsons, Josh and Bryce Sams; nephews, Dan and Chad Sams; and nephews, Jeff  and Jerrad Stewart. The graveside service and burial were held at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Hiawassee, Ga.
