Roy Dale Long, 88, of Hayesville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019 surrounded by family.

Dale, most commonly known as Daddy, Pa Pa and Pappy, spent his entire life focused on spreading love to all that met him. He was at complete peace when producing magic through his woodworking talents. Dale made sure to pass down his love for family and God's wondrous creations to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The world is a little darker now that he is no longer with us so it is up to all of us to carry on in his absence and represent him as he would expect.

Dale was born to the late Buford and Donnie Maney Long on April 19, 1931 in Rainbow Springs, N.C. He proudly served in the Army and was a Korean War era veteran.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by brothers, Paul B., James, Billy and R.L. Long; and sister, Eula Mae Long.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Willa Mae Long; brother, Robert Long; three children, Roger (Peggy) Long, Arlene (Mike) Hall and Richard (Linda) Long; seven grandchildren, Phillip "Barney" (Vanity) Hall, Kelly (Jamie) Davis, Connie (Lamar) Schandera, Karla (Roger) Miller, Jennifer (Scott) Baugh, Joseph (Rosa) Potts and Anita (Jake) Sieg. 19 great-grandchildren; Zakaree Evans, Kala Schandera, Taylor Hall, Joshua VanLandingham, Trey Hall, Jay Baugh, Maggie Schandera, Trae Miller, Levi Miller, Cody Baugh, Brady Hall, Riley Baugh, Tyler Hilton, Andrew Miller, Delaney Hilton, Wayne Davis, Olivia Potts, Hailey Ratliff and Gabby Ratliff; two great-great-grandchildren, Karen Hester and Adalynn Ratiff; and numerous nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 at the Shiloh Baptist Church. Rev. Clark Moss will officiate.
