Ruth White Hollifield

Ruth White Hollifield, 88, of Hayesville, passed away Monday, March 29. 2020 at a Hiawassee, Ga. care facility.

She was born and raised in Towns County, Ga. Ruth loved sewing, cooking and watching her grandchildren play sports.  She was a lifetime member of the Hiawassee Chapter #305 Order of the Eastern Star. She served in all stations including Worthy Matron numerous times during her 61 years as a member.

She was the daughter of the late William Garner and Mae White and wife of her late husband, Robert Hollifield, who died March 31, 2016. She was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Ella White, and a brother, Edd White.

She is survived by two sons, Bob Hollifield and wife, Sandra, of Sandy Springs, Ga., and John Hollifield and wife, Sharon, of Saphire, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Schoerner and husband, John; Jason Hollifield and wife, Symone; Matthew Hollifield and wife, Laura; and Nathan Hollifield; five great-grandchildren, William and Naomi Hollifield, Jack and Joann Elaine Schoerner and Daphne Hollifield; an “adopted son” Bobby Gene Patterson, of Bradenton, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her longtime caregiver Theresa Callahan, whom Ruth’s family would like to express their gratitude to.

A graveside service for family and close friends will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 4 at Old Ledford’s Chapel Cemetery with Dr. Chester Jones officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jason and Nathan Hollifield; grandson-in-law, John Schoerner; Mike Arrendale, Jim Eller and Mitch Nichols.
