Samuel Matthew Roach
Mr. Samuel Matthew Roach, 82, of Fires Creek, Hayesville, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Clay County Care Center. Mr. Roach was born on Feb. 25, 1939, to the late Van B. Roach and the late Hattie Leatherwood Roach.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. Sam was a a skilled carpenter earning his AAS from Tri-County Tech. Sam worked many years with Phillip Hollifield and other local builders. He loved fishing and playing guitar with his brothers and friends. Sam was loved by all who knew him and was known for his big smile, kind soul and fun spirit. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, Robert, Daniel, Thurman and Virgil Roach; sisters Estella Patterson, Iva Martin and Jessie Coffey.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Hope and Harold Garrett; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Frank J. Dills; sister-in-law, Clara Vee Roach; and grandchildren Brandi and Jacob Garrett and many nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thank you to all the caregivers at Clay County Care Center in Hayesville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31 at Cochran Funeral Home, of Murphy, N.C., with Rev. Matthew Roach and Rev. Rondall Brown officiating.
The family received friends at the Cochran Funeral Home from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, July 31.
