Wade Brendle
Wade Brendle, 68, of Murphy, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022 at his residence, surrounded by family. He was a native of Clay County but had been living in Murphy for the past 39 years. He was a 1972 graduate of Hayesville High School. Wade began his career working at the pallet factory in Murphy. He then went on to work as a carpenter, helping build many homes in the area, until retirement. Wade was a talented woodworker and crafted many bowls, picture frames and other wood crafts. He loved being outdoors hunting and fishing. He was a member of Fires Creek Baptist Church, but had enjoyed attending Tomotla Baptist Church in recent years.
He was the son of the late Fred Edward and Mary Lora Leatherwood Brendle.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Brendle, of Murphy; two step-daughters, Becky Martin, of Asheville, and Helen Russell, of Murphy; three sisters, Joan Zimmerman, of Hayesville, Helen Hogsed, of Burlington, N.C., and Cathy Brendle, of Murphy; two brothers, Kenneth Brendle, of Blairsville, Ga., and Claude Brendle and wife Karen, of Hayesville. He is also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 in the chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Harold Stiles officiating. Music was provided by Diane Debty. Interment was in the Brendle Family Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were David Ledford and Bobby McNabb.
The family received friends from 12 to 1:45 p.m. at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the service.
