Westley Scott "Skeet" Whitaker, 51, of Hayesville, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 peacefully in his sleep.

Scott was born in Hiawassee, Ga. to Joyce Scroggs Shelton and the late Charles Whitaker. 

He dedicated his life to helping others as a social worker. Scott felt that every smile meant something. Scott was an avid hunter and a fisherman who loved the time spent outdoors. Scott loved football, from playing to watching. Scott was a dedicated father, brother, son and grandfather. He was known for being able to walk into a room and light up the room with his infectious smile and laugh. Scott had the biggest heart for someone he knew and even a stranger. Scott was a United States Army Veteran which he loved and was dedicated to his years in service.

Scott is survived by his mother and father, Joyce Scroggs and William Shelton; a son, Dalton Whitaker (Amber); daughters, Ashley Whitaker (Brittany) and Sabrina McGee (John); brothers, Jason Whitaker (Heather), Eric Whitaker and David Shelton; sisters, Kimberly Whitaker, Melissa Whitaker and Teresa Shelton; grandchildren, Brayden, Arabella, Thomas and Robert and many nieces and nephews.

A small informal gathering was held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 25 at Old Fashioned Baptist Church in Murphy.
