Roberts, Hughes lead Hayesville at conference meet

Hayesville High School sent the Yellow Jacket cross country runners to Bryson City Wednesday, Oct. 20 to compete in the Smoky Mountain Conference championship meet. The Lady Jackets lacked enough runners to be eligible for points and the Yellow Jackets ended the event in fifth place.

While HHS was unable to secure a podium finish, individuals did the black and Vegas gold swarm proud.

Individual girls results:

Lila Roberts: 10th place, 23:29.52

Lilliani Denton: 15th place, 26:25.42

Riley Denton: 20th place, 31:29.84

Angelina Denton: 21st place, 32:26.95

Individual boys results:

Landon Hughes: 15th place, 19:14.49

Cannon Brewer: 18th place, 19:34.83

Luke Lee: 20th place, 19:43.71

Zachary Townsend: 23rd place, 20:12.87

Cooper Matheson: 35th place, 22:48.17

Caden Gordon: 37th place, 23:03.08

Luke Ledford: 42nd, 24:35.41

Next on the schedule for qualified runners is the region championship meet which will be held in Bryson City on Saturday, Oct. 30.
