Lt. Col John Brian Davis, III, son of John and Dinah of Hayesville recently retired from the United States Army. He started this military career many years ago as a young teenager in Civil Air Patrol, a U.S. Air Force Auxiliary and achieved one of the highest awards, The Billy Mitchell Award.
He also help set up and start a U.S. Navy ROTC and was selected as its first Commander at Duluth High School. He graduated with honors from Duluth High School in 1995. He also received a full academic ROTC scholarship to North Georgia College and State University, where he graduated with honors and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from North Georgia College as a Distinguished Military Graduate.
His career has spanned many bases, many locations around the world. He has logged many hours as a command Army Aviator pilot especially in the Iraq War for 30 months. He served as a Brigade Commander of AH-64, Apache Attack Helicopters at JBLM, Washington. His last assignment was at the Pentagon where he helped stand up the U.S. Space Force. He is now transitioned from The U.S. Army as a commercial rated pilot ready for the next adventure. He was recently hired as a Airline Pilot with Republic Airlines.
We thank his wife Liz, son Luke and daughters Hannah and Charlotte for manning the home front while he has faithfully served his country...one more thing... His great service has earned him the Legion of Merit Award.
