Guess what? Oct. 20-26 is the 14th Annual National Friends of the Library Week.

The Hayesville chapter of Friends of the Library has been enhancing the services of Moss Memorial Library since 1984.

Our awesome bookstore, located beside Moss Library, is staffed 100 percent by volunteers. We sell gently used books of all varieties, all of which are donated by generous folks who want to share their books. The money we earn from selling these books goes 100 percent to fund needed library projects. We have purchased new carpeting for the entire library, purchased additional books and other important modern media needs and the list goes on.

Have you noticed our newest aesthetic addition sitting in front of our library? It’s a bear sculpture, created by blacksmith Joe Miller of Brasstown, in honor of Jane and Everette DeVaughn, honoring their many contributions to Moss Memorial Library. Mama Bear sits on a fallen log, snuggling with Baby Bear, reading a book. We hope you will bring your children and family members to sit with the Bear family and create a family photo.

Did you know that our Hayesville chapter of Friends of the Library includes 165 members, including 24 lifetime members and two honorary members from five states? There an many benefits to becoming a Friend of the Library, the most important being that you are are making a difference in your community by contributing to the library.

“Libraries preserve our past and inspire our future.”

Moss Memorial Library and The Friends of the Library will be hosting an open house at the library 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.

We hope to see you there.
