The power of the Holy Spirit can transform lives

Jesus’ words that the flesh is as nothing or dust is true. His words of the life of the eternal spirit is also true. Moses and Elijah were alive on the mountain after hundreds of years. At one point in my life, I was alive separate from my body. I know this. It is as real today as it was 54 years ago. The body and blood of Jesus are the eternal food and drink of those who follow Jesus. Pull your chair up to God’s table. Jesus is the banquet of the eternal spirit. Eat and drink life. Jesus says that he lives because of the father and that we too can live, if we feed on Jesus.

We have gone down several rabbit trails since we left Peter in Acts 2:25-41. Verse 41 says that about 3,000 were added to their number that day. This is because of the power of the Holy Spirit to transform lives. What we should keep in mind as we follow the Apostles through Acts is that they are ordinary men and women. The activities that we will witness are a result of the Holy Spirit functioning in the power of God. These are not supernatural men and women. This is not a supernatural God. It is God functioning in his natural ability through vessels of clay who listen to and hear the voice of God.

In order to hear God’s voice, we need to know his voice. God has spoken to us through many prophets. Then at last God spoke to us through his son, Jesus “The Christ.” He spoke loud and clear. The same spirit that descended on the day of Pentecost is seeking men and women everywhere to encourage them to open their hearts and minds to God the Father and his great love revealed to us through Jesus “The Christ.”

The Apostle John, the one Jesus loved, writes, For the law came through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ, John 1:17. Jesus told Pilate just before he was sentenced to death that everyone who spoke truth will listen to him, see John 18:37. Then in verse 38 Pilate says to Jesus, “What is Truth?” This is more of a statement which implies that everyone has their own truth. As human beings we all have our truths. However, sometimes they are proven to be wrong. Therefore, they are not absolute truths. However, Jesus reveals to us God’s truth. It is unchanging eternal truths that we can truly bet our life on. The witnesses for Jesus, as we will see, have bet their life on the truth of God that Jesus reveals.

It begins with a bang. Everyone was sharing their possessions and gathering together. At the beginning they were unified and many people were coming to Jesus because they believed. Jesus says, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent,” John 6:29. Next: Power to heal.
